What are superfoods?
A superfood is a food that contains a multitude of beneficial compounds such as vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. They boost the body’s health and immune system and fight against free radicals which can be linked to conditions like cancer and heart disease. Typically we find superfoods in our diet when we eat nutrient-dense foods like spinach, kale and chia among others.

At Nunaïa, when we talk about superfood nutrition, we are referring to the topical application of powerful and magical plant actives sourced from nature on the skin. These actives are superfood for your skin and are incredibly dense in nutrients and hold beneficial properties that feed the skin exactly what it needs to regenerate, stay hydrated and glow. Sacha Inchi - Helps to maintain natural skin cell regeneration
Also known as the ‘mountain peanut’, sacha inchi is packed with nutrient-dense compounds that transform the skin. Gentle enough for sensitive skin, sacha inchi noticeably improves the skin’s hydration, promoting its repair. The oil is high in omegas 3 and 6, vitamin E and antioxidants. It’s a natural form of vitamin A and is a plant-based retinol so is naturally anti-aging and anti-inflammatory helping to enhance the skin tone and texture.
Its high content in omega 6 is what gives it skin regenerative properties par excellence. Sacha inchi is also especially good for dry skin as it is deeply moisturising, combating trans epidermal water loss and gives the skin a natural radiant glow.
Maracuja - Shown to brighten skin and give it a regenerated and restructured appearance
Another regenerative active, maracuja, a variety of the passion fruit, is an anti-inflammatory oil that is very beneficial for dry and irritated skin and can be found in our Nourishing Radiance Serum.
Its high carotenoid content means that maracuja is abundant in antioxidant goodness, encouraging the renewal of skin cells.
It also contains vitamin A and helps to stimulate the production of collagen and fight pigmentation. Due to its light, non-greasy texture, maracuja can be beneficial for acne prone skin as it moisturises without clogging pores.
Almond oil - a natural surfactant that helps to gently remove dirt and make up
Almond oil contains vitamins A and E and is an extremely nourishing and moisturising oil for many skin types. It’s especially good for treating dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis because of its ability to soothe compromised skin, acting as an emollient and helping the skin to lock in all of its moisture. The oil is also a wonderful cleansing agent and is what makes our Superfood Cleansing Balm such an effective yet gentle make up remover.
Calendula oil - Helps to reduce redness and inflammation of the skin
Also known as marigold, calendula is known for its calming, soothing and gentle effects on damaged and compromised skin and is an anti-inflammatory, helping with the skin’s healing process. People have often used calendula to treat redness, burns and bruises. As calendula has restorative, healing properties, it can be beneficial for skin conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis. It’s also great at soothing any inflammation, rosacea or redness on the skin and can be found in our award-winning Nourishing Radiance Serum.
Chia - helps to maintain natural lipid balance and help reduce the appearance of inflammation
The popular superfood native to Central and South America is known to carry many benefits as part of a regular diet, but also has noticeable effects when applied topically on the skin. Chia was an important element in the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures.
Whether ground or in oil form, the Aztecs would use chia in their cosmetics and also as a part of their rituals. Having one of the highest contents of omega-3 fatty acids means that chia is an incredibly beneficial nutrient because it carries anti-inflammatory properties that can calm and relieve stressed skin. It’s high content of rosmarinic acid also means that it holds antioxidant, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Studies have indicated that when applied topically, chia seed oil can improve the symptoms of eczema, dermatitis and trans epidermal water loss.
Avocado - helps to plump and soften the skin and reduce moisture loss
Containing a cocktail of nutritious compounds, avocado is another superfood that we love for its many benefits. The popular fruit comprises vitamins K, C, E, folate and a host of other goodies. The oil itself is very moisturising and contains levels of Vitamins A and D. All of these powerful components in conjunction make avocado oil useful in protecting the skin and plumping the skin as it helps maintain collagen levels.

Our Superfood Cleansing Balm helps to nourish and brighten the skin, leaving it soft, comfortable and hydrated.
The certified organic cleansing balm uses cutting-edge green beauty technology for a unique balm to milk formulation which effectively dissolves makeup and removes dirt and grime.
