COMMUNITY

Nunaïa [noo-nigh-ya] means soul Tribe

Community and tribe is at the heart of what we do from the way we source our organic, sustainably grown ingredients to how we interact with the communities in which we do business.

We source from unique locations around the planet that are of high cultural and environmental interest to us all. We believe it’s important to protect these special places and to create and support sustainable development models that allow the local communities earn a fair wage, enjoy a good standard of living and pursue opportunities of personal development which will, in turn, enable the protection of their local culture and environment.

OUR GROWERS

Our Founder spent over a decade working with local communities on the Galapagos islands, in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the Peruvian Andes, and saw first hand the positive impact sustainable business models can have on families, the wider community and the planet. Nunaïa stems from this deep understanding that what and how we buy is important and can make a real difference to the lives of communities around the world.

We source our key actives directly from our community of growers in the Amazon Rainforest and Andes Mountains of Peru.

GIVING BACK

The Nunaïa Community Fund is our way of saying thanks for all the wisdom and abundance received over a decade in South America and our way of giving back to the communities we work with. A percentage of the profit on every product sold goes straight back into the communities where we source our lovingly grown ingredients.

How the fund works

  • Scholarship funds for girls' and womens' education in Amazonian and Andean communities - Educating girls and women helps to tackle the root causes of poverty, helping to increase health, wage earning capacity and gender disparity among developing communities.

  • Environmental conservation and stewardship in some of Peru’s most threatened eco-systems. The Peruvian Rainforest and Andes Mountains are home to a wealth of bio-diversity and help to regulate both our climate and prevent soil erosion. Over 25% of our modern day medicines come from the rainforest.  They are coming under increased threats from deforestation and mass farming and their preservation is vital to human health.

LIVING WAGE

Our growers are paid fairly for their work as caretakers of some of the planets most unique and biodiverse ecosystems.

The UN Sustainable development goals show that a living wage is a key driver for gender equality, reducing poverty and allowing access to better education all of which are core pillars of our philosophy at Nunaïa.
