Organic skincare has gained huge attention as more people look for cleaner, eco-friendly alternatives to traditional beauty products. To help you navigate this world, we’ve answered the most frequently asked questions we get about about organic skincare.
Organic skincare means skin care products that are made using natural ingredients that are organically farmed. Organically farmed ingredients mean ingredients that are farmed without using any herbicides, pesticides, GMO ingredients or synthetic chemicals.
Certified organic skin care means brands and products that have undergone a stringent and rigorous third-party certification process to guarantee they genuinely are organic.
Organic certification guarantees that brands use natural ingredients from organic farming that are sourced and manufactured sustainably with non-GM ingredients, herbicides, pesticides or synthetic chemicals or fragrances. In order to get organic certification skin care brands also have to use ingredients that are sourced sustainably and don’t damage the environment as well as ethical, safe manufacturing processes and green packaging.
At Nunaïa we believe that no one and nothing should suffer from what we put on our skin and that the best way to guarantee our ethical ‘Soil to Skin’ philosophy was by getting organic certification through the Ecocert COSMOS organic certification label.
“Natural” means a product contains ingredients from nature, but the term is unregulated. “Organic” means ingredients are grown and processed under strict organic farming standards.
Organic certification is a stringent process where the entire supply chain of a skin care brand is audited including ingredient suppliers, formulation and manufacturing processes, traceability of ingredients and suppliers, packaging, environmental management and communication. The process typically takes several months and involves an annual audit and paying an annual certification fee.
As with organic food, organic skincare ingredients are thought to have a higher nutrient quality than conventionally grown ingredients. So, if formulated correctly these products mean more benefits for your skin and overall health.
Food standards like USDA Organic are tightly controlled. Cosmetics don’t have the same global regulations, which means brands may define “organic” differently unless they carry a trusted certification. That's why we hold the stringent Ecocert COSMOS organic certification for our products,
When you choose certified organic skincare, you’re part of something bigger:
Supporting biodiversity and protecting pollinators.
Empowering growers with fair pay and safe working conditions.
Keeping harmful chemicals out of our waters and soils.
Together, these choices create a ripple effect of positive change - building a beauty industry that restores, not depletes.
Every Nunaïa ritual is a step towards a healthier future, for your skin, our planet, and our communities.
