How to transition your skincare routine from summer to Autumn

Summer. Who doesn’t love it? Today, we're sharing our top tips on how to transition your skin easily from summer to autumn and keep that glow as the seasons change.

How to transition your skincare routine from summer to autumn

With different seasons, comes different weather and environments, which impact the skin in different ways. During summer, your skin may feel more moisturised because of the humidity that’s naturally in the air. However, once autumn arrives, humidity typically decreases and the air becomes drier and we're exposed to sudden temperature changes. This can mean drier, dull, more irritated skin. This isn’t the best news for most of us, particularly those with sensitive skin conditions like eczema.

The drier, colder months also affect the skin’s renewal process which slows down and sheds less. So you have to work twice as hard to get the results that you want for your skin.

How to Care for Autumn Skin

Our top skincare tips to transition your skin into Autumn without any side effects:

1). Stay hydrated

Our skin is made up of 64% water and is key to human health as it aids circulation, digestion and even helps rid the body and skin of toxins. It helps to increase the density of the skin. Studies show that inadequate water intake can make skin appear dull with lines and wrinkles becoming more prominent. Aim to drink about 2 litres of water a day.

2). Eat healthy

We are what we eat and our diets have a direct link to our skin health. The continual skin exposure that we experience during the summer can directly impact antioxidant levels in our skin. Consuming a nutrient-rich diet with lots of whole grains, leafy greens and other vegetables and fruit  as well as essential fatty acids and lean proteins can help restore lost vitamins and minerals and improve our skin health.

3). Moisturise!

This tip probably seems obvious, but are you moisturising effectively? Apply moisturiser to the skin immediately after cleansing or taking a shower while skin is still damp. This will aid with better absorption. As we head into colder months you can also switch to a thicker, richer moisturiser particularly during the day which will act as a protective layer to shield your skin barrier when you are out and about and being blasted by heat, cold, pollution and other external skin stressors.

4). Make sure to cleanse effectively

During seasonal transitions it's best not to use harsh exfoliators or products for a few weeks, to allow your skin to adapt to the new conditions. Make sure to double cleanse with a gentle and nourishing cleansing product. This will help unclog pores and remove dead skin cells to help with the skin’s natural renewal process. Nunaïa’s Superfood Cleansing Balm is made with gentle, natural exfoliants that won’t leave the skin feeling stripped or dry. It can also be used as a hydrating treatment mask to leave your skin feeling cared for and well nourished during colder months.

5). Incorporate a night time skin routine

Night time is not just a chance for the rest of the body to repair. Your skin also uses this time to regenerate and repair and this is when it does most of its work. Try to use products that hydrate, rejuvenate and restore the skin.

Richer serums and face oils are a great night-time treatment choice. Apply your serum to cleansed skin. Our Nourishing Radiance Serum is made up of organic superfood plant actives that work to balance your skin’s moisture levels and restore tone and texture while you sleep. It also helps to reduce redness and inflammation.
